This project was inspired by the Old English poem, "The Dream of the Rood," the mystical appearance and voice of the crucifix relating its story.

In terms of approach, I decided to concentrate on a spiritually personified and highly stylized representation of a portion of the rood and its story, with the emanating visage performing a double role of being the voice of the tree and somewhat a depiction of the subjects the poem meditates on.

I created this work in Blender 2.48a and achieved the final look using Blender's internal render node network (i.e. no external software post-pro).
