This project was created for a recent Blender Artists Weekend Challenge.
"Small World" was the challenge theme.
Stylistically, my image was primarily inspired by Medieval art and overly simplified representations of the cosmos at that time.
The concepts in the image go to the heart of challenging the old Ptolemaic (geocentric / Earth-centered-universe) system, where, beyond such old thinking, it would be revealed Earth is not only NOT the center of the universe but rather quite small (a "pale blue dot" as Carl Sagan would have said) and part of something greater, more majestic and mysterious and beautiful, if not infinite.
Eventually, those like Galileo and Copernicus (Copernican Revolution), helped usher in new understanding of our cosmos and prepare a way toward a more modern cosmology.
Technical notes: this image was created and finalized entirely within Blender. Only procedural textures were used.
Thank you for viewing my work.
